Hyderabad Mayor Seeks CM’s Intervention for Development & Council Meet

Hyderabad, February 3, 2024: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Mayor Vijayalakshmi met Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (Revanth Reddy) today seeking his intervention in expediting development works and convening the crucial council meeting.

During the meeting, the Mayor highlighted the need for immediate action to ensure smooth progress on various ongoing development projects within the GHMC limits. She emphasized the importance of addressing financial constraints and streamlining processes to accelerate project completion.

The discussion also covered the formation of the Standing Committee, a vital body for decision-making within the GHMC. The Mayor expressed concerns about the delay in its constitution and urged the Chief Minister to facilitate its swift formation.

Furthermore, the financial situation of the municipality was a key point of discussion. Mayor Vijayalakshmi reportedly apprised the Chief Minister of the GHMC’s financial limitations and sought his support in securing adequate funds to meet its obligations and fulfill development goals.

A critical issue raised by the Mayor was the non-convening of the GHMC council meeting, reportedly leading several corporators to approach the High Court. She appealed to the Chief Minister to instruct the GHMC Commissioner to call a meeting at the earliest, emphasizing its importance in ensuring transparency and democratic participation in civic decision-making.

The Chief Minister’s response to the Mayor’s requests remains undisclosed. However, her initiative in bringing these concerns to his attention highlights the current challenges faced by the GHMC and underscores the need for collaborative efforts to ensure efficient development and effective governance within the city.
