Hyderabad: Asaduddin Owaisi, the President of Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen and Member of Parliament from Hyderabad, strongly criticized the recent decision of the Varanasi court, deeming it entirely incorrect and warning of potential consequences akin to the events of December 6 in the country.
Owaisi highlighted that the judge who issued the verdict concluded their last day of duty today. Having appointed the district magistrate as the receiver on January 17, the judge decided the entire case by permitting worship in the basement of the mosque complex. Owaisi asserted that this decision constitutes a violation of both the law and the sanctity of the place of worship. Expressing concern, he pointed out that after 30 years of worship in the basement, the court granted permission with an order to make all necessary arrangements within seven days.
The barrister emphasized that the plaintiff should have been given a minimum of thirty days to appeal against the decision. Owaisi reiterated that unless the Narendra Modi government breaks its silence and unequivocally declares its commitment to the rule of law and religious freedom, such controversies will persist.
He recalled his previous expression of concern during the Babri Masjid ownership case, stating that while respecting the Supreme Court, decisions based on belief could lead to these unfolding scenarios. Owaisi questioned why the lower courts are not aligning with the Supreme Court’s declaration of the law of the place of worship as the basic structure of the decision and urged the central government to address the issue.
