In a distressing incident, a student hailing from Hyderabad, pursuing a master’s degree at a university in Chicago, United States, was brutally attacked by armed robbers near his residence on Campbell Ave. The victim, identified as Syed Mazahir Ali, a resident of Langer House in Mehdipatnam, sustained injuries in the attack that occurred on February 4.
The incident unfolded as Ali, accompanied by a friend, was walking back home when three assailants pursued and attacked him, ultimately snatching away his mobile phone. The shocking episode was captured by a neighbor’s CCTV camera, revealing the harrowing moments when Ali attempted to evade the attackers.
Speaking to a local news agency, Ali recounted the traumatic experience, saying, “This is something I cannot forget. He was holding a gun on me, and two more on my head.” The CCTV footage highlights the intensity of the assault and the immediate threat faced by Ali.
Ali’s cousin, Alauddin, who witnessed the incident, provided additional details, stating, “They pulled up next to my car because when they made their first two rounds, they saw me sitting in the car with my lights on, so I was an easy target for them, but I hid in the backseat.”
Concerns about Ali’s well-being have prompted his wife to reach out to the Minister of External Affairs, Dr. Subramanyam Jaishankar, seeking the best possible medical assistance for her husband in the USA. Additionally, the appeal includes a request for necessary arrangements to be made for her to travel to the United States to be with her injured spouse during this challenging time.
The incident has sparked widespread concern and calls for increased security measures in the area. The local community and Ali’s family are anxiously awaiting updates on his condition, emphasizing the need for swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice. The Consulate General of India in Chicago is also closely monitoring the situation and is expected to extend support to the victim and his family.
