A minor fire broke out on Wednesday evening in the first floor of Government Niloufer Hospital, specifically in the biochemistry laboratory wing. The incident triggered swift emergency response measures, ensuring the safety of all patients and staff within the hospital premises.
The blaze, which led to the emergence of substantial plumes of smoke, prompted the evacuation of inpatient wards and other hospital sections. Women patients and infants undergoing treatment were efficiently relocated to ensure their safety.
The timely intervention of the fire department played a crucial role in bringing the situation under control. Firefighters, supported by a fire engine from the Assembly fire station, swiftly reached the spot and successfully extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
MLA Nampally, Majid Hussain, who was present at the scene, commended the coordinated efforts of the hospital staff and the fire department in promptly managing the situation. He emphasized the importance of well-prepared emergency response protocols, which ensured the safe evacuation of patients.
Hospital authorities have assured that most of the patients in the vicinity of the incident were evacuated promptly and that there is no cause for concern regarding their well-being. Additionally, preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was contained to the biochemistry laboratory wing, minimizing potential damage to other hospital areas.
The incident serves as a reminder of the critical role played by emergency response teams and highlights the significance of regular safety drills in healthcare institutions. The hospital administration, in collaboration with the fire department, will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire and implement any necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
As normalcy returns to Niloufer Hospital, the focus remains on ensuring the continued well-being of patients and the swift restoration of normal hospital operations.
