Hyderabad: The Telangana government has declared a holiday for Shab-e-Meraj, observed on the 27th of the Islamic month of Rajab. While it is included in the state government’s calendar as a holiday on February 8, it is categorized as an optional holiday rather than a general one.
Shab-e-Meraj holds significant religious importance for Muslims globally, commemorating Prophet Muhammad’s night journey from Makkah to Jerusalem and his ascension to heaven. During this sacred journey, the Prophet interacted with various prophets and received guidance from Allah.
Despite not being a general holiday on February 8, some schools in the state will remain closed next Thursday. Typically, minority educational institutions in Telangana observe a holiday on the day following Shab-e-Meraj.
Telangana is set to observe three optional holidays in February, including two for Shab-e-Meraj and Shab-e-Barat, and another for Sri Panchami. However, there is no general holiday scheduled for this month.
