Mumbai, In a gesture symbolizing reconciliation and religious harmony, the first brick for the foundation of the proposed grand mosque in Ayodhya has arrived in Mumbai. The brick, baked in a Mumbai kiln, embarked on a consecration pilgrimage to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina before returning to India. This auspicious brick, marked with inscriptions from the Holy Quran, is set to reach its final destination at the new upcoming Masjid Mohammed Bin Abdullah mosque in Dhannipur Village, Ayodhya, around mid-April.
The brick’s journey commenced from the home of Haji Arfat Shaikh, a member of the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation and Chairman of the Masjid Mohammed Bin Abdullah Development Committee. Shaikh, who is overseeing the preparations, expressed his vision for the new mosque to be an essential center of prayer and healing in India. He anticipates that the construction, by the grace of Allah, will be magnificent and majestic, comparable to globally renowned monuments like the Taj Mahal.
This upcoming mosque holds a unique significance as the first in India to be constructed based on the five tenets of Islam. Five symbolic minarets, visible over a distance of 11 kilometers, will be constructed alongside the mosque. Additionally, the mosque plans to house the world’s largest copy of the Holy Quran, measuring an impressive 21 feet.
Crafted from Mumbai’s black soil, adorned with inscriptions from the Holy Quran, the brick was brought to the city in a solemn ceremony following the sacred pilgrimage undertaken by five Muslims. The journey from Mumbai to Ayodhya will feature grand spectacles and processions, starting from the Kurla suburb to Mulund. The route will include breaks for prayers and opportunities for people to pay their respects every 300 kilometers.
A descendant of the Sufi saint Sarkar Peer Adil will have the honor of carrying the first brick, accompanied by representatives from various Islamic sects, symbolizing inclusivity and unity within the Indian Muslim community. To enhance transparency, the new mosque will launch its website on February 29, featuring a QR code for donations and information about the projects within the mosque complex. These projects include a cancer hospital, a college, a senior citizens’ home, and a vegetarian kitchen, emphasizing the multifaceted role the mosque aims to play in the community. The new mosque is expected to be four times larger than the erstwhile Babri Mosque, which was razed in December 1992.
